Save the EDID from your HDTV Display.

HDTVs use EDID - Extended Display Identification Data - to ensure that a connected HDMI source sends compatible audio and video signals. In certain situations this data can be lost resulting in an incorrect signal, or even a complete loss of audio and/or video. The HDMI Detective Plus solves this problem by ensuring that the HDMI source receives a correct EDID signal at all times.

Gefen has designed the HDMI Detective Plus for quick and easy programming and installation. After a simple EDID recording process is completed, the HDMI Detective Plus is installed at a place in the video distribution chain where it can provide the HDMI source with a consistent EDID signal.

In addition to supporting all features of HDMI 1.3, the HDMI Detective Plus is also fully compatible with 3DTV.

How It Works

To program the Detective, first connect it to the HDMI input of the display or A/V receiver that is being used. For the programming process only, the Detective is powered by an included 5V DC power supply. Disable the write protect switch, set the DIP switches to the appropriate positions, depress the program button and after a few seconds EDID recording is complete. The Detective can now be disconnected from the display and power supply and installed at the appropriate place in the video distribution chain. The Detective will receive 5V power from the HDMI output of the source device.

Note: This device is HDCP compliant.

The supplied 5V DC power supply is only needed during the initial EDID programming step. Once the internal memory in the HDMI Detective Plus has been correctly programmed, the power supply is no longer needed.

The Gefen HDMI Detective Plus includes 5 pre-programmed EDID profiles that can be used in the event that a suitable EDID cannot be recorded. Instructions for selecting a pre-programmed EDID profile are outlined in the user’s manual.
